July 2011: Whitney Askew

Tell us a little about yourself, where you grew up, kids, career etc.

I lived in Benbrook my whole life until me and Bryant got married two years ago and we built our first house here in Aledo. I love where we live even though he has a far commute to work and I have a far commute to school. I’m a senior at the University of North Texas and my major is Interior Design. We have a four legged child named Boss he is our 1 year old German Shepherd that keeps me company while Bryant is working at the fire station.

What are some of your hobbies?

I enjoy shopping….what girl doesn’t :) I like painting and doing anything crafty.

What is your most embarrassing moment?

When I was going to Weatherford College I was on my way down to the parking lot and I fell down the stairs while I was text messaging. I wouldn’t recommend trying that.

What do you enjoy doing in your down time?

I love going on dates with Bryant and spending time with family, friends and Boss. I like to watch movies and go get my nails done.

Name a place you hope to travel to before you go to the big box in the sky?

I have a pretty bad fear of flying but I would love to see some of the architecture in Europe one day….so we will see if I can conquer that.

What attracted you to CrossFit?

I haven’t ever really been into sports or anything but I wanted to workout to be healthy. I never go to the gym because I don’t know what to do or know if I’m doing it right. Bryant started doing CrossFit before me and talked me into doing it because he liked it so much and thought I would too…..he was right!

What is your biggest CrossFit accomplishment so far?

Its not a huge accomplishment but not finishing last on a WOD makes me feel pretty good.

What one exercise do you say “oh great” to and what is the one you say “hell yea” to when you see them in the WOD’s?

“oh great” would be hand stand push ups and “hell yea” would be either sit ups or squats.

What would you say to someone who has never tried CrossFit?

I would say its awesome! It not only helps you get stronger but it helps you mentally too because you find out you can do things you never thought you could do.

If you were an animal what would you be and what would your animal name be?

I would be a Leopard named Cookie.
